Project Batman - use of ad-hoc network

Project Batman is looking at using ad-hoc network (as in a decentralized, device-to-device network) and making it much more useful for Android devices.

When you have a group of Android devices and you group them together in an ad-hoc network, you can send messages, share files using the right application. This will help the users to communicate over a significant distances in an emergency situation. This communication will be possible at a distance within 100ft.

Batman was created by Josh Thomas and Jeff Robble who realised the importance after 2010 Haiti earthquake, came to the conclusion that there needed to be a way for emergency crews to communicate not only with one another but with local volunteers as well.

We may not see this immediately, however SPAN is already available as apps on Google Play (needs Root access).
